San Marcos Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Fentanyl Distribution, Co-Defendant Awaits SentencingSource: Drug Enforcement Administration

A 20-year-old man from San Marcos has been given a ten-year ticket to the slammer after pleading guilty to fentanyl distribution charges. Colten Romeo Thayer, who hopped on the fentanyl train, will now have plenty of time to think about his life choices from behind bars.

During an otherwise routine traffic stop back on August 29, 2022, Hays County Sheriff’s deputies discovered 11 grams of the deadly drug in Thayer's ride. He admitted to buying and selling fentanyl pills in the Hays County area.On December 21, 2023, Thayer decided to quickly plead guilty, avoiding to potentially draw out a longer sentence had he chose to fight the charges in court, according to U.S. Attorney's Office, Western District of Texas

Anthony Perez Rios, Thayer’s co-defendant, is also in hot water with the law. He pled guilty to possession with intent to distribute a substantial, 40 grams-plus, mixture containing fentanyl. Rios is awaiting his sentencing, coming up on May 23, while he warms a cot in federal custody.

This case springs from a joint investigation effort led by the DEA and San Marcos Police Department as per U.S. Attorney's Office, Western District of Texas. Assistant U.S. Attorney Gabriel Cohen was the lead on the charge against Thayer.
