Tragedy struck the waters of a Palm Beach County canal where a man lost his grip on life along with his Jet Ski, setting off a desperate search that has yet to yield results. The incident occurred on a canal off Southern Boulevard, a stretch of water now combed by hope and sonar alike since the victim tumbled into its depths on Sunday.
According to WPTV News Channel 5 West Palm, the man went under at approximately 5:25 p.m. near the area between Congress Avenue and and Perimeter Road. While the victim's identity has not been disclosed, multiple fire rescue divers were dispatched after panicked calls to 911 reported a person falling off a Jet Ski and not resurfacing.
The Palm Beach County Fire Rescue and the sheriff's office were first responders to a scene now marked by urgency and uncertainty. As they plied the waters, no trace of the missing Jet Skier could be found despite a thorough 90-minute search by dive teams.
A marine unit joined the efforts, bringing their sonar equipment to penetrate the murky silence below. The search pressed on into Sunday evening until the failing light called a temporary halt to the operations, as reported by WFLX. The following morning brought a renewed sense of purpose, with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission also lending their sonar devices to the search alongside the sheriff's office. As of 11:30 a.m. Monday, the waters had yet to release any clues to the whereabouts of the missing man.
