A Smyrna man met a violent end when gunshots rang out at a South Nashville apartment complex, police sources report. The fatal shooting occurred around 9 p.m. Friday at the Cascade Apartments, located at 3300 Murfreesboro Pike. Metro Nashville Police found 23-year-old Vidal York dead from gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the complex, according to FOX 17.

A second victim, a 19-year-old man thought to have arrived with York, sustained non-critical injuries in a shooting. He was transported to the hospital and later released, detailed The Tennessean. The shooter, still at large, is believed to have escaped the scene by car.

In the wake of the tragedy, the community seeks answers while authorities press on with the investigation. The Metro Nashville Police Department has not yet pinpointed a motive for the shooting and is working active leads. Details surrounding the circumstances leading up to the deadly exchange remain elusive, but police believe the escape was made by automobile, WKRN reported.
