Wilton Manors residents are bracing for a series of roadway disruptions as the Broward County Highway Construction and Engineering Division gears up to improve a key intersection. Starting April 15, the crossroads of North Andrews Avenue and Northeast 26th Street will undergo a slew of upgrades, scheduled for completion by the end of the year, according to the official announcement.
The upgrades, seeking to bolster safety and traffic flow, will be primarily funded by the state gas tax. Barring any unforeseen conditions or weather delays, the project is slated to wrap up in December 2024. It includes a conversion of the current traffic signal system to a mast arm supported traffic signal system and the milling and re-surfacing of asphalt pavement. Residents and businesses being worked closely with by the contractor personnel and inspection staff, the impacts caused by the project will hopefully be minimized.
Also, a new crosswalk, upgraded pedestrian ramps, and updated signage and pavement markings that adhere to current standards are part of the plan. This initiative is expected to not only enhance pedestrian safety but also to improve the aesthetics of the area.
