An 18-year-old woman was rushed to safety after being shot in the drive-thru of a Humboldt Park McDonald's, as police combed the area for a gunman on a bicycle linked to the violence. The incident, which unfolded in the early hours of Tuesday around 1 a.m., escalated from a heated altercation to a hailstorm of bullets in the 4300 block of West North Avenue, said Chicago police.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the woman was at the wheel with three passengers in tow when a man on a bike rode up, exchanged words, and then unfurled gunfire. She sustained injuries to her back and left arm but managed to drive to St. Mary’s Hospital, before being transferred to Stroger Hospital in good condition.

A McDonald's worker reported to ABC7 Chicago that the shooter, allegedly a food delivery driver, was also queuing to collect an order when the confrontation took a violent turn. Following the shooting, which also left a silver car spotted at the hospital riddled with bullet holes, terrified customers and staff reportedly fled the scene, seeking refuge from the chaos.

No arrests have been made yet, and investigators have not specified which delivery service the suspect was representing. Surveillance footage from the McDonald's drive-thru is being reviewed by Area Five detectives, in the hopes it will shed light on the gunman's identity and aid in his capturing.
