A horrific accident on Interstate 75 in West Broward led to a devastating outcome Tuesday morning when a car ended up in a canal, claiming the life of a 19-year-old passenger, authorities reported.
As per WSVN, the incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. when a black Infinity Q50 sedan suffered a tire blowout near the Broward-Collier county line. This misfortune caused the driver to drastically lose control, veering the car off-road where it rolled over multiple times before striking a tree and landing in a nearby canal.
Emergency crews from Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue arrived on the scene, discovering that three individuals were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. While the driver and another rear passenger were able to extricate themselves from the sinking car, the front passenger had to be rescued by divers and subsequently airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Florida Highway Patrol officials said that the fatal victim was a 19-year-old man seated in the front passenger seat. In a statement obtained by NBC Miami, video footage at the scene captured an air rescue helicopter landing to quickly transport the severely injured man to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The identities of those involved have yet to be released.
The aftermath of the crash significantly impacted traffic flow on I-75, with congested lanes and ongoing efforts by emergency teams to salvage the car and clear the site. The cause of the accident remains under active investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
