Westbound Donald Ross Road at Bascule Bridge, a critical artery for Palm Beach County commuters, has swung open its lanes to traffic once again, and this time it's ahead of the game. Officials from the County's Engineering and Public Works (EPW) department have confirmed that the westbound side of the bridge reopened on Friday, May 17, 2024. Despite hiccups in the eastbound closure, the construction team managed to efficiently replace critical hydraulic and electrical systems to assure the bridge's structural integrity, according to a press release from the county.
Ahead of schedule and aiming to keep it that way, the EPW strove to quickly complete renovations on the Bascule Bridge, a span that's been shouldering the weight of local traffic for over two decades. The early completion comes as a win for EPW, who had earlier faced delays, but managed to swiftly recover. The bridge's overhaul is a testament to the county's commitment to not just maintain, but enhance, the area's transportation framework.
Further work on the bridge is on the agenda, with EPW aiming to wrap up the enhancement project by September 5, 2024. Motorists can breathe a sigh of relief, as no more lane closures are expected for the remainder of the project. This comes as good news for daily commuters and local residents who have endured the inconveniences that typically accompany such substantial road work.
Palm Beach County's EPW has expressed their thanks to the community for their patience, understanding that such improvements, though necessary, can disrupt daily life. Jillian Rhein, Public Information Manager for the EPW, noted, "We recognize the inconvenience caused by the closures and extend sincere gratitude to the community for their patience and understanding throughout the restoration process." Reinforcing their drive to consistently boost the safety and efficiency of the county's transportation network, Rhein's comment underscores EPW's unwavering commitment to such endeavors.
