In a crackdown against drug peddling in South Boston, Drug Control Unit officers of the District C-6 clamped down on a suspected dealer last night. In response to community complaints about rampant drug activity, the police laid their eyes on Andy Alcantara-Beltre, 31, from Dorchester, nabbing him red-handed on multiple drug charges, as reported by the Boston Police Department.
The bust happened near 45 William T. Morrissey Boulevard, where according to the Boston Police, Alcantara-Beltre was observed operating his vehicle and suspiciously using his cell phone, seemingly awaiting a cohort. Engaging in what appeared to be a covert transaction, a second male hopped in, and upon leaving the vehicle, he was tailed by officers and was found to be carrying three plastic bags of fentanyl inside a grocery store. Observing the exchange, the officers were quick to stop the man.
Further tightening the dragnet, officers tracked down Alcantara-Beltre’s vehicle, and with the blare of sirens and a flash of red and blue lights, they made a traffic stop. The officers, who searched the individual, seized a total of two bags of fentanyl, ten bags of crack cocaine, and eight bags of powder cocaine, alongside a wad of $800 ostensibly from illicit drug sales.
The arrest sent a strong signal to other actors in the shadowy drug-laced alleys of South Boston. Alcantara-Beltre now faces the music with possession with intent to distribute class A, two counts of possession with intent to distribute class B, and was charged with distribution of class A. The local courthouse in Dorchester District Court will be his next stop, where he will be arraigned for his accused crimes.
