In a late-night operation that played out on the streets of Dorchester, Boston police, alongside the Mass State Police Gang Unit, arrested two individuals and seized an array of contraband including a loaded firearm, a high-capacity magazine, and drugs. The high-velocity scene unravelled Wednesday night, as detailed in a report published by the Boston Police Department.
Police, specifically targeting youth violence, flagged down a suspicious black Toyota Corolla boasting windows tinted darker than a moonless sky, speeding along Dorchester Ave. around 10:52 PM. The vehicle, which attracted the officers with its tint, was also speeding, prompting police to activate emergency signals for a traffic stop.
Upon conversing with the occupants, 21-year-old Mekhi Phipps-Dedrick and 19-year-old Chance Pierre, both of Dorchester, officers met with overt agitation. According to the Boston Police Department's official statement, the pair were non-compliant, engaging in a verbal confrontation and disputing the officers' instructions during their detainment.
Searches conducted by the officers led to discoveries first of a large backpack stuffed with sealed packages of marijuana and $300 in U.S. currency, followed by the unsettling find of a 'ghost gun' in the underbelly of the vehicle, traded atop a spare tire. The gun, a black Glock, was accompanied by an extended magazine loaded with 16 9mm cartridges.
The aftermath of the operation saw Phipps-Dedrick hit with a slew of charges: excessive window tint, unreasonable speeding, illegal possession of a firearm, and carrying a loaded gun without a permit, among others. Pierre, hauled in for an unrelated warrant, faces his own set of allegations including disturbing the peace and assault & battery on a family member.
Both suspects are scheduled for arraignment at Dorchester Court, where they will contend with the legal ramifications of a patrol turned bust, a night where law enforcement peeled back layers of criminal intent hidden behind darkened glass and a vehicle's secret compartments.
