Burglary Spree Strikes Chicago, Wicker Park Seafood Restaurant and Bucktown Cafe Hit OvernightSource: Google Street View

Thieves shattered the peace of Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood, smashing their way into "The Angry Crab" early Tuesday. CBS Chicago reports, multiple individuals broke the glass doors of the restaurant, located at 1900 North Milwaukee Avenue, after 2 a.m. and made off with cash registers and a safe. The burglars remained at large with the authorities having made no arrests in connection with the incident.

Within proximity, the night's appetite for chaos did not end, with a cafe in Bucktown, situated just a mile away, also suffering a smash-and-grab burglary. Fleeing after breaking the glass door around 3:10 a.m., the thief was attempting to haul off around $3,000 in products. CBS Chicago also reported that this suspect, unlike their earlier counterparts, was caught and apprehended, with charges now pending.

Police have yet to establish a connection between the two incidents on Milwaukee Avenue, as the investigation continues. The Angry Crab in Wicker Park was targeted specifically around 2:03 a.m., according to ABC 7 Chicago, when suspects shattered the front glass doors and absconded with a register and a safe, the contents of which were undisclosed.

The crime spree shadowed a similarly troubling episode from the previous day, when on the South Side, a black Jeep, four male occupants made a considerably more forceful entrance into a liquor store on Monday morning. After backing the vehicle into the store's front door, the suspects collected goods and fled. Chicago police are left piecing together the series of events, the information of which was also confirmed by ABC 7 Chicago. Area Five detectives have been tasked with the investigation, in hopes of deterring future break-ins.
