A fiery multi-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 95 in Delray Beach, where bystanders leaped into action to save a driver from his burning car, WPTV reported. The collision, involving four vehicles, took place Saturday night north of Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach Fire Rescue revealed.

The intense blaze that ensued following the collision saw quick-thinking individuals rescue 21-year-old Travis Smith from his vehicle, Smith was then taken to the hospital as a trauma alert, his face burned and his hip fractured and later surgery had to be performed on Monday. Delray Beach Fire Rescue's statement noted, "One of the vehicles caught fire and several bystanders pulled the driver out the vehicle," capturing the desperate moment's urgency.

Struggling to recollect the horrific incident, Smith told WPTV, "I don't remember anything before I hopped in the ambulance," expressing the haze that surrounded his memory of the crash. His mother, Samantha Wallace, expressed profound gratitude towards the fearless rescuers, stating, "We're so grateful for strangers who pretty much risked their lives to jump into a car that was on fire."

Smith emotionally acknowledged the strangers who intervened, "You saved my life," he said, pointing to the razor-thin margin between life and death that was bridged by the bystanders' courageous actions, Wallace echoed this sentiment calling the strangers' intervention crucial, indicating the encounter could have had a tragic end, but thanks to the unnamed heroes, her son lives to share his story.

Following the incident, Smith and his family have been earnestly trying to identify and thank the individuals who pulled him to safety, according to a Delray Beach Fire Rescue tweet.
