
A year-long manhunt came to an end this week as Chicago police finally nabbed a suspect in the 2023 murder of a 35-year-old man. Antonio Jackson, himself 35 years of age, from the 5300 block of S. Cottage Grove in Chicago, has been hit with first-degree murder charges and a count of being an armed habitual criminal according to the Chicago Police Department's release.
Members of the CPD and the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Apprehension Task Force apprehended Jackson on May 28, 2024, on the 8000 block of S. Rhodes, after he was identified as the offender who took part in the previous year's fatal encounter that occurred on the 1700 block of W. 69th St., authorities have explained the suspect was involved in a shooting incident that resulted in the death of another 35-year-old male.
As the legal process grinds forward, Jackson faces a detention hearing at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse on May 31. The community hit by the violence waits to see if justice will be delivered for the untimely demise of their fellow citizen, details surrounding the events that led to the fatal shooting remain scarce as officials have not disclosed more information beyond the charges laid.
