A historic Norwell home suffered extensive damage when a pickup truck crashed through its living room, ripping a page right out of Cara Sacchetti and Brandon Hall's dream of getting married in their centuries-old domicile in just a few weeks. Norwell Fire Department responded to the Central Street scene yesterday, finding a Chevy Silverado lodged inside the house and the driver trapped but alert, as reported by NBC Boston.
Deputy Fire Chief William Milne recounted that it was not an isolated incident, "It’s the second time it’s happened in the last two years on this street,” as he pointed out to Boston 25 News. This time, however, the impact carries a personal narrative that resonates with heartbreak and disbelief, with Sacchetti and Hall staring down the destruction of a home where they planned to begin a lifetime together. No one was at home during the crash, averting a potential tragedy.
The driver of the truck, who authorities extracted and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, is reportedly facing an OUI charge. "This is pretty heartbreaking," Sacchetti told NBC Boston, expressing her sorrow over the condition of the historic home she purchased three years ago. The house, adorned with a plaque dating back to 1706, now stands violated by the intrusion of steel and rubber.
Frustration was evident as Hall reflected on the incident. "The trajectory of the car, the guy must have been completely out of his mind," he vented in an interview with NBC Boston. With their wedding just around the corner and guests planning to stay with them, the couple now faces a labyrinth of stress and planning upset. Despite the unfolding dollar signs of damage, the extent of the repairs is still being assessed, and further details on the cause of the crash have not yet been disclosed, according to MassLive.
