Little Original Joe's Unveils New Marina Location in San Francisco with Classic and Innovative Italian American FareSource: Little Original Joe's

San Francisco's famed Original Joe's is expanding its culinary footprint once again with the grand opening of Little Original Joe’s in the Marina District. This new outpost, located at 2301 Chestnut St., promises to bring an exciting blend of tradition and innovation to the local dining scene.

The Marina District can look forward to welcoming the new venture, which opens Thursday, May 30. The owners, siblings John and Elena Duggan, have finally realized their pre-pandemic dream of a sit-down restaurant. The siblings initially pivoted during the pandemic to launch the first Little Original Joe’s in West Portal in December 2020, transitioning from their original plan of a casual pizza and pasta eatery to a takeout model that was better suited to the times.

This latest iteration, however, offers a full-service dining experience complete with a robust menu featuring classic Italian American fare. Patrons can indulge in favorites such as garlic-Parmesan knots, spicy vodka pasta, and rotisserie chicken. Exciting new additions to the menu include zucchini fries, mushroom Parmigiana, and cacio e macha pasta—a creative twist on cacio e pepe using salsa macha from their new Mexican restaurant, Elena’s.

In a report by The San Francisco Chronicle, the Duggans have transformed the former Lucky Brand clothing store into a stylish dining space. The art deco building boasts high ceilings, black-and-white checkered terrazzo floors, and custom chandeliers. “We were drawn to it immediately,” Elena Duggan noted, highlighting the venue's inherent charm. The decor includes about 100 seats featuring plush maroon chairs and black leather booths that harken back to the original ambiance of Original Joe’s. A striking 6-foot black-and-white photograph of their grandfather Tony Rodin, taken at the original Taylor Street location, adds a touch of familial history to the elegant setting.

SFist adds that the Marina location includes a full bar serving the renowned Original Joe’s martinis, adding to the dining allure. This new establishment brings the Duggans' restaurant count to five, with a slated sixth location planned for Walnut Creek later this year.

As noted by 7x7, the family's success lies in their blend of comfort food and warm hospitality, both of which have been consistent draws for their long-standing customers. “Comfort-driven food is timeless,” John Duggan said, encapsulating the philosophy that has been at the heart of their expanding empire.

Little Original Joe’s in the Marina promises to be a vibrant new addition to the area, offering a welcoming space for both old patrons and new visitors. The restaurant will operate from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, with weekend openings at 10:30 a.m. For more details, check out littleoriginaljoes.com.
