A 30-year-old man, Timothy Gibbons Jr., faces criminal homicide charges after shooting 63-year-old family friend Alan Howard this afternoon at a home on Fain Street, per the Nashville Police Department. Gibbons, who was apprehended at the scene, admitted to officers that he was the shooter, police said.
Gibbons claimed the incident spun out of control following a prolonged drinking session that started the previous evening, during which a friend of Howard's arrived. They all got into the friend's vehicle around noon. According to Gibbons' account, Howard got aggressive and began assaulting Gibbons with fists and open hands inside the car. Gibbons pulled out his firearm, a semi-automatic pistol, and as he was chambering a round with his finger on the trigger, Howard got shot in the chest. After the incident, Gibbons left the vehicle and instructed a family member to alert the authorities. Howard's other friend was no longer at the location when police turned up, officials stated.
The Nashville Police reported that upon their arrival, they found Howard with a chest wound, later declaring him deceased at the scene. Investigations continue as law enforcement seeks to piece together the events leading up to the shooting. The department affirms that no other suspects are being sought regarding the incident.
While awaiting legal proceedings, Gibbons' bond has been set at $75,000 by a judicial commissioner. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the event to come forward, as this could shed further light on the circumstances surrounding the fatal altercation, the Nashville Police Department noted.
