Detectives in Nashville are seeking help from the public in the identification of a man involved in a heated altercation with church volunteers outside Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. According to a statement from the Nashville Police Department, the incident occurred late Saturday night when the suspect, allegedly aggravated, began to spew profanities at the volunteers managing traffic during an evening mass.
The confrontation took an alarming turn as the man, walking his dog along Sunrise Avenue, brandished a firearm and fired into the ground. One of the church goers, in a perilous reflex, produced his weapon and discharged a warning shot, prompting the aggressor to retreat. Police believe the suspect resides nearby, having been spotted in the area on previous evenings. The reason behind his provocation remains unclear.
Citizens are encouraged to come forward with any information that could lead to identifying the man seen in a cell phone image captured during the episode. "Anyone recognizing the man from the attached cell phone image taken by one of the church goers is asked to contact Crime Stoppers," the Nashville Police Department stated.
