NBC Bay Area's coverage provided firsthand accounts from residents, who detailed the frightening atmosphere as multiple shots rang out. Dante Avila, a San Jose resident, revealed his concern for safety in an area frequented by his family. "It’s a little concerning because they're both little girls and we are constantly taking walks. It’s a little alarming to know that it happened here," he told NBC Bay Area.
Pablo Soto, another San Jose resident, described a disordered scene with a focus on a gray minivan that appeared to be related to the incident. "We just the cops running up inside the building and outside on the street. Just running everywhere," said Soto via NBC Bay Area news report. In the aftermath, some locals faced delays returning home, while others opted to stay elsewhere for the night.
