A tragic waterskiing accident claimed the life of a young girl on the waters of Biscayne Bay near Key Biscayne, Florida, leading to an ongoing search for the hit-and-run boat driver who is responsible, according to authorities.

The accident unfolded Saturday afternoon as the girl was celebrating a friend's birthday, waterskiing alongside family and friends near Nixon Beach. The festivities turned into horror when a first responder reported over radio transmissions to WSVN saying, "We’ve got multiple reports of a person that got run over by a boat.” as chaos ensued with reports of "a lot of blood in the water," in the wake of the collision, the driver of the boat in question failed to stop, proceeding to flee the scene.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission immediately spearheaded the investigation, and officials relayed to NBC Miami a description of the offending vessel: a light blue center console boat, possibly flaunting blue or dark blue bottom paint, powered by three or four white outboard engines, seen heading westbound from the area of the incident.

In response to this tragedy, Miami-Dade Police and Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers have been rigorously patrolling, pulling over several boats in and around No Name Harbor at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park, according to WSVN the victim, whom authorities have not yet publicly identified, succumbed to her injuries from the crash. Meanwhile, the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is urging those with any information to step forward and contact the Wildlife Alert Hotline, as the search for the boat and its driver continues with urgency, hoping for answers to bring justice in this heartbreaking case.
