Chaos unfurled on the Palmetto Expressway in Miami-Dade County Wednesday afternoon as multiple suspects were rounded up following a high-speed chase. Law enforcement concluded the pursuit around 1:30 p.m. near Northwest 47th Avenue, snaring at least a couple of alleged culprits, Local 10 reported. Clipping a stationary vehicle on the shoulder during its desperate bid for escape, the speeding silver SUV was finally corralled by cop cruisers, narrowly escaping injuring a person behind the vehicle. According to NBC Miami, the SUV in question had been under surveillance for appearing to case a warehouse area in Florida City as part of a robbery operation.
The chase came to a cinematic end when the stolen vehicle was boxed in and immobilized amid the pulsing Miami traffic. Acquired footage from overhead showed the scene replete with both marked and unmarked police units, guns drawn and trained on the suspects. The stolen car's occupants were surrounded and swiftly taken into custody following the dicey highway maneuver.
Miami-Dade Police, who had set the stage for the chase when their Robbery Intervention Detail spied the suspects, later told NBC Miami that the suspects might be connected to robbery cases. The stolen vehicle was stopped dead in its tracks by a coordinated police effort after an attempt to flee from authorities.
It remains unclear how many individuals from the ruckus on the highway will face charges, but Local 10 has confirmed several detainees following the incident. Traffic on the Palmetto experienced significant delays, with bystanders catching a front-row view of law enforcement in action, Miami-Dade Police have not disclosed identities of the detained, pending further investigation into the matter.
