A car plunged into a West Miami-Dade canal early Friday morning, prompting a rush of first responders to the scene, officials said. The accident occurred near the interchange of the Florida Turnpike and Southwest Eighth Street. According to WSVN, the vehicle was found completely submerged in the waterway.

Two women managed to quickly exit the submerged vehicle and were observed on the canal's banks unharmed. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue indicated that divers, thereafter, were to swiftly enter the water to search for any additional occupants who might have been in the car at the time of the mishap.

Aerial footage from the scene showed the car, entirely underwater, and rescue crews, including Miami-Dade Police and Florida Highway Patrol, in action. In a statement obtained by NBC Miami, officials revealed that the two women were assisting on the side of the canal immediately following the accident.

No hospitalizations were required following the incident. Divers scoured the murky depths in the aftermath to ensure there were no further victims of the crash trapped beneath the water, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials confirmed. As of yet, the cause of the accident remains under investigation and has yet to be officially determined to release.
