A 12-year-old boy stands accused of committing two armed robberies in Chicago earlier this month. The juvenile, whose identity has not been disclosed due to his age, was taken into custody Wednesday and charged with two felony counts of armed robbery, according to Chicago Police Department reports.
Details surrounding the incidents are sparse, but what is known stems from a police account that details the alleged crimes. On June 4, at approximately 10:31 a.m., the young suspect, alongside unspecified accomplices, is said to have taken property at gunpoint from a 35-year-old female and a 62-year-old male in the 2700 block of E. 89th St. The arrest took place over two weeks later in the 9000 block of S. Escanaba Ave.
This case is drawing attention not just for the severity of the crimes but for the young age of the accused. The boy's initial detention hearing is scheduled to take place at the Juvenile Detention Center at 1100 S Hamilton.
