According to a community alert issued by the Chicago Police Department, groups of men have been targeting individuals, employing a similar method of operation which involves approaching victims, demanding property at gunpoint, and making a quick escape in waiting vehicles.
The incidents, all occurring on June 15 and 18, 2024, took place in the predawn hours or early morning, save for one evening incident. Affected locations span from the 700 block of North Sacramento Blvd to the 3800 block of West Armitage Ave. Witnesses have consistently reported the offenders as male Blacks, clad in dark clothing and black ski masks, creating an unsettling pattern of recurrent menace in these communities.
In each instance, the assailants employed handguns to intimidate their victims into forfeiting personal belongings. The Chicago Police detail that the armed men used several vehicles to conduct their operations, including a silver minivan, a silver/gray Kia SUV, a black SUV, a dark-colored Hyundai, and a blue Kia Sportage. In the wake of these alarming events, the department has asked the community to remain vigilant and to report any person or vehicle matching the descriptions.
Officials have emphasized the importance of prioritizing personal safety over possessions, advising against resistance during an attempted robbery. "Never resist a robbery. Value your life over any and all property," the alert warns.
