The Chicago Police Department has issued a community alert for an attempted kidnapping and child luring incident in the 19th District, near the area of 3933 N. Wayne Ave. The incident, which took place on Saturday morning, involved an individual trying to persuade a 12-year-old girl to get into his vehicle.
According to the alert, at some time between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 a.m., the girl was approached by an African American male, believed to be about 50 years old with a shaved head, dark complexion, and no facial hair. He was seen wearing dark sunglasses, and a dark shirt, as he drove a black SUV and repeatedly told her to get into his car. Thankfully, the girl did not comply and instead headed home to safety.
Residents in the outlined neighborhood are being urged to stay vigilant. The CPD has asked the community to report any suspicious activities or individuals by calling 911 immediately. Additionally, they advise not to let children walk or play alone and to identify safe places along their usual routes where they can seek refuge if needed.
The police are actively seeking more information and encourage anyone who can help to come forward. While the description of the suspect is fairly general, the details of the vehicle could prove useful in identifying him. Authorities are hoping that community members will assist in their efforts to locate the individual responsible, and by doing so, aid in preventing any future attempts.
