High above the rugged terrain of Mount Diablo, the CHP’s Golden Gate Division Air Operations and the San Ramon Valley Fire's helicopter rescue technician (Hrt) team executed a daring midday hoist rescue of an elderly male hiker in distress, officials said.

The incident, which unfolded yesterday afternoon, saw the CHP H-30 chopper team up with the local fire department’s Hrt in a swift collaboration to save a hiker suffering from a medical emergency on the mountain. The rescuers were able to deploy a helicopter rescue technician to the scene rapidly and hoist the patient to an awaiting ambulance, CHP - Golden Gate Division Air Operations reported.

An Hrt member, trained for rope and helicopter rescue missions was integral to the operation's success. San Ramon Valley Fire boasts of being the first Hrt team in the Bay Area, a unit that has proven its worth in efficiently serving the public need for aerial rescues.

This latest rescue marks the 57th performed by Golden Gate Division aircraft in 2024, a testament to the relentless efforts of these teams.
