The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States (GFOA) has just handed the City of Casa Grande a reason to celebrate. In recognition of significant achievement, the GFOA awarded Casa Grande the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, highlighting the city's commitment to the highest principles of governmental budgeting. According to the City of Casa Grande, bagging this award is no small feat as it reflects the diligent work of city officials and staff, especially the Finance Department.
To even be considered, Casa Grande had to sufficiently meet certain guidelines assessing the budget's function as various tools – including a financial roadmap and a policy document. To finally secure the award, the city's budget had to be rated "proficient" in four main categories and satisfy 14 compulsory criteria, as detailed by the City of Casa Grande. The city has managed to not only meet but also exceed expectations, with special recognition in "Strategic Goals & Strategies" – a nod given only when all three reviewers unanimously agree to give the highest scores in particular areas.
Bringing the pride of the achievement to light, Mayor Craig McFarland lauded the effort and dedication of his team. "We, as the City Council, take immense pride in the outstanding work our dedicated staff consistently delivers for the City of Casa Grande,” McFarland said, as per the City of Casa Grande. The sentiments echo a city that is keen to ensure not just today's financial health, but also to strategically maneuver for prosperous tomorrows.
