
A construction worker lost his life in a traffic incident in Naperville, Illinois, prompting an ongoing investigation by local authorities, as reported by a city press release. The Naperville Police Department and Fire Department responded to the scene at the intersection of S. Naper Boulevard and Heatherfield Circle on June 24 following reports of a construction worker hit by a vehicle. The 55-year-old male victim from Addison was found unresponsive and despite resuscitation efforts by emergency responders, later died in the hospital.
The driver of the involved vehicle, a silver 2007 Kia Portage, is a 74-year-old woman from Mazon, Illinois, her vehicle became the focal point of the tragic event at approximately 10:04 a.m., the accident led to lengthy road closures that lasted until the mid-afternoon with traffic being diverted until around 2:30 p.m. In accordance with protocol specialized traffic crash investigators and reconstruction specialists from the Naperville Police's Traffic Unit were called to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The city's administration has extended its condolences to the victim's family, emphasizing the importance of safety measures for city employees and contractors. "First and foremost, our sincere thoughts and condolences are with the family and loved ones of the individual who passed away," City Manager Doug Krieger was quoted in the statement, further mentioning that "The safety of our employees and contractors is our number one priority, and our focus now is on supporting our staff and our Police Department personnel as they conduct a thorough investigation into this tragedy."
