A police chase that began with the investigation of a stolen vehicle in Broward County ended with a dramatic crash and subsequent arrest in Miramar on Thursday, NBC Miami reported. Broward Sheriff's Office deputies were forced to undertake a pursuit that lasted across two counties after a man, identified as the driver of the stolen vehicle, rammed an unmarked Broward Sheriff's Office car during an attempted traffic stop.
7Skyforce's aerial footage captured the silver van weaving dangerously through traffic on the Florida Turnpike, which was detailed in a live report where the van was described as "just driving recklessly all over the roadway," by WSVN reporter Ralph Rayburn, leading to an exit near Hard Rock Stadium where the driver, after engaging in a high-speed chase was finally intercepted and the pursuit ended with a PIT maneuver by authorities, causing the van to crash into a guardrail and come to a stop.
With the vehicle immobilized and a wheel lost, law enforcement drew their weapons and surrounded the van as the suspect emerged by breaking the glass and crawling out of the passenger window before being handcuffed, as seen in footage from the scene, multiple lanes of the exit ramp were closed as police investigated the occurrence and no injuries were reported as Local 10 news confirmed, though the suspect's name and specific charges have yet to be released by officials.
The Broward Sheriff's Office's VIPER Team, which was responsible for the arrest, has been part of several high-profile captures in the past week, including the pursuit of a stolen Tesla that resulted in a collision, and they took into custody 25-year-old Anthony Williams who had attempted to flee the scene, barefoot along Interstate 95, after slamming into a disabled car; this event was also reported on by WSVN. The BSO continues its investigation while the arrested man awaits the announcement of his charges.
