Fort Lauderdale's official website issued a traffic advisory warning of single-lane closures along the bustling strips of Las Olas Boulevard and A1A. Expect the roads to constrict, nightly from 9 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., squeezing traffic into tighter streams.
The necessary evil of these directional bore operations isn't without its headaches. Las Olas Boulevard will see one of its lanes disappear nightly into the maw of construction work. And, it's not just Las Olas feeling the squeeze; the outside northbound lane of A1A is also signing off each night during the same hours. For pedestrians, the sidewalk dance involves a closed stage at the intersections of Seabreeze Boulevard and Las Olas Boulevard, along with the east sidewalk of SR A1A being off-limits, according to the same advisory.
But it's not all doom and gloom. The FDOT is committed to keeping the disruption to a minimum—businesses and pedestrian pathways will remain accessible amidst the nocturnal symphony of drills and diggers. The areas impacted are specific: Las Olas Boulevard from Seabreeze Boulevard to Almond Avenue, and A1A from Las Olas Boulevard to south of Poinsettia Street.
