A man from Glendale experienced a harrowing ordeal while hiking in Switzerland, falling significantly and sustaining serious injuries. Logan Moore, a 25-year-old on a backpacking trip, took a near-fatal tumble off a cliff after attempting to capture the perfect video moment. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, Moore slipped on wet rock and moss, which caused him to lose his footing and plunge over the cliff's edge.
In a statement obtained by FOX 10 Phoenix, Logan recounted the terrifying moment: "I took a video the second before I fell." The initial fall was approximately 25 feet before Moore struck a wall of rock, knocking him unconscious. The descent did not end with that impact; he then fell into a crevice for an additional stretch, head first. "That platform on my back and that momentum sent me into the crevice where I fell another 25 feet head first into the crevice and where I got stuck at the bottom," Moore told the publication. Fortunately, he regained consciousness while awaiting rescue, contemplating the gravity of his situation. "I accepted what it was and kind of said some goodbyes. At that point, I didn't know if I was going to make it out," he added.
The Swiss mountain rescue team promptly arrived, and within 20 minutes of the accident, a helicopter was dispatched to the site for evacuation. Moore detailed the rescue process, noting, "Then he was able to put the harness around my legs and over my left shoulder, and they had to bring me up about ten feet and then traverse a little bit, like ten feet because it was so skinny, the crevice was so small." Following the successful extraction, Moore was airlifted to a nearby hospital for emergency care. FOX 10 Phoenix confirms that his mother, Jana Moore, expressed overwhelming gratitude for the efforts of the rescue team. "I am beyond grateful for that rescue team," she said.
After being transported back home to Glendale, Moore underwent surgery at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center. He is currently recovering from a broken left scapula and significant damage to his right shoulder and elbow, injuries that do not require surgery but will heal over time. His rehabilitation is expected to take between three to six months. Moore remains optimistic about his recovery, motivated by his plans to attend the Olympics, for which he holds nonrefundable tickets. To assist with rising medical expenses, a GoFundMe has been established to support Moore's recovery.
