A Lawrence man has been sentenced to over three years behind bars for his part in a fentanyl distribution ring, revealed the U.S. Attorney's office. Fraily Rodriguez Morillo, 26, faced Judge F. Dennis Saylor, IV in a Boston federal court, who handed down a 46-month sentence plus two years of supervised release following incarceration.

Caught up in the web of illegal narcotics, Morillo admitted to charges in February, including conspiracy to peddle heinous quantities of fentanyl and its analogues. His conviction stems from multiple distributions of the deadly drug, some of which occurred in blatantly public settings such as Woburn and Lawrence. Morillo's plea covers one count of conspiracy and several counts pertaining to fentanyl distribution, as per the announcement by acting U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy.

According to a statement, the federal grand jury had previously indicted Morillo with Melvin Antonio Perez Medina and Manuel Fredis Guerrero Guzman in November 2022. Instruments in a broad operation that stretched between March and August of the same year, they conspired to circulate significant amounts of fentanyl across several towns.

Delving into specifics, Morillo was held accountable for pushing some 230 grams of fentanyl and 560 grams of a fentanyl mixture, including a dangerous analogue known as p-fluorofentanyl. The operation reached its denouement in August when Perez Medina, arrested with nearly two kilograms of the lethal substance in a cereal box, was sentenced to 64 months in prison earlier this year, while Guzman will see 21 months behind bars following a May 30 sentence.

Enforcement agencies, including the FBI and the DEA, alongside local Massachusetts law enforcement, collaborated on the investigation, a victory for the ranks of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces. Assistant U.S. Attorney Alathea Porter took the lead on prosecuting the case, which reflects OCDETF's mission to take down advanced criminal networks, as discussed on their official website.
