Miami residents have cause to celebrate as the Miami-Dade County Animal Services, in collaboration with Friends of Miami Animals Foundation Inc. , has launched a free mobile veterinary care initiative designed to serve the community's pet population. The WOW (Wellness on Wheels) Mobile clinic, equipped to provide essential wellness services for dogs and cats, will be stationed at the John F. Kennedy Public Library until August 28.

Offering a range of services including vaccines, deworming, and flea prevention, the initiative aims to fill the gap in areas known as veterinary deserts. According to a statement obtained by Miami-Dade County, the clinic operates on a first-come, first-served basis, Monday through Wednesday, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding Thursdays through Sundays and all county-observed holidays. Located at 190 W 49TH ST, Hialeah, FL 33012, the mobile unit is a lifeline for pet owners without easy access to veterinary care.

The WOW Mobile was made possible through a donation and grant funds provided by FoMA, which have facilitated these vital services for pet owners. The mobility of this clinic represents a commitment to alleviate the burdens of pet ownership for those who might not otherwise have the means. Underserved areas across the county have been targeted for service outreach in an effort to ensure that no pet owner in need is left behind.

Animal Services is a crucial component of the Miami-Dade community framework, taking in a staggering annual count of 30,000 to 36,000 animals ranging from the lost to the abused. With a dedicated staff working tirelessly, as reported by Miami-Dade County, they leverage both on-site and offsite adoptions, in addition to partnerships with local rescue organizations and volunteers, to ensure these animals find their forever homes. For more details on their programs or to get involved, residents can visit animals.miamidade.gov, call 311, or engage with Animal Services on social media @adoptmiamipets.
