A tragic incident occurred on the northwest side of the city late Tuesday night when a motorcyclist was killed after losing control and crashing into a light pole. According to KENS 5, the accident took place near the intersection of Steubing Parkway and Katma Lane, in the vicinity of De Zavala Road, at approximately 9:40 p.m.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing the rider, whom police say was a man in his 20s, lose control of his bike before the crash. Not far from De Zavala Road and Babcock Road, the solo incident resulted in no other vehicles being involved, nor were any more injuries noted, as KSAT reported. The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased right there at the scene.
The name of the man has not been disclosed to the public, waiting until the next of kin has been notified. At this current juncture, it remains unknown whether the individual was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. The San Antonio Police Department, along with the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS, responded promptly to the emergency call.
As the investigation continues, SAPD has not yet determined the cause that led to the motorcyclist losing control. The eight motorcycle fatalities this year come after a total of 27 were recorded in the previous year, as SAPD stated.
