A fatal police shooting in Nashua, New Hampshire, has sparked an official investigation, confirmed by the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office. An unidentified man was killed by Nashua police outside a Lowe's Home Improvement store last night, leaving no officers injured and no perceived threat to the public, as reported by Attorney General John M. Formella's office.
Following reports of an armed man leaving his home earlier on Sunday, Nashua law enforcement converged on the Lowe's on Daniel Webster Highway around 8:45 p.m. NBC Boston detailed that the armed man was engaged by the officers. "During the ensuing encounter, two officers ultimately discharged less-lethal munitions, and one officer discharged a firearm," the attorney general's office said in a release. Subsequently, the man was shot, and despite attempted life-saving measures, he succumbed to his injuries. His identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
State officials disclosed plans for an autopsy to be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. More than seven hours following the incident, a significant police presence remained on site, with access to the business completely blocked off and several Nashua police officers stationed at the entrances. Yellow tape and a white tent, remnants of the prior night's investigation, were reported by MassLive.
As the case remains active and ongoing, authorities have identified all parties involved, reaffirming that no further threat to the public exists. WCVB reported that a news release was issued just after 11 p.m. Sunday evening, confirming the death of the male subject involved in the police shooting. Further details about the circumstances leading to the fatal shooting have not been disclosed by investigators.
