Tragedy struck in Phoenix as two young boys, aged 1 and 2, died in separate hot tub incidents over the weekend. On Saturday, firefighters responded to a call near Thomas Road and 55th Avenue, where they discovered a 1-year-old unconscious and not breathing in an above-ground hot tub, as reported by KOLD News 13. Efforts to resuscitate the child were made before emergency personnel arrived, but the boy was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
In a separate incident, a 2-year-old boy, identified as Axiel Marguez, was also found unconscious in a hot tub near the intersection of 59th Avenue, and Thomas Road. CPR was administered to Marguez before paramedics took over, as detailed by FOX 10 Phoenix. The boy was in extremely critical condition when he was rushed to the hospital where he was later declared dead.
Following both incidents, Community Assistance Programs were sent to provide support to the grieving families. While the exact circumstances that led to the drownings are unknown, Phoenix officials are conducting investigations into these tragic events. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, drowning is the leading cause of death for children between the ages of 1 and 14.
