Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is taking serious steps to combat child exploitation; he recently charged a Pinckneyville man with multiple counts of child pornography possession. Larry W. Morrison, 56, could face a substantial prison sentence if convicted—up to 15 years for each of the three Class 1 felony counts and up to five years for each of the two Class 3 felony counts; Raoul's office, teaming up with federal and local law enforcement, arrested Morrison after discovering incriminating evidence in his home on June 20.

"Survivors of child exploitation and abuse face a lifetime of healing from the trauma they experience," Raoul stated, underlining the commitment of his office in holding accountable those who perpetuate such crimes and working closely, as Perry County State's Attorney David Searby Jr. commended, with the Attorney General's office in these efforts, Morrison is currently detained at the Perry County Jail awaiting the legal process. Raoul's team initiative stems from an ongoing project funded by a U.S. Department of Justice grant, which oversees the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force—a collective that investigates child exploitation and provides training for relevant agencies.

Reports of such exploitative materials have risen dramatically, as shown by a 46% increase in CyberTipline reports to the ICAC in 2023 over the previous year. The Attorney General's office encourages the public to be vigilant and proactive about these crimes; allegations of child sexual exploitation can be directed to the online portal at www.cybertipline.com, and Illinois' child abuse suspicions can be reported at dcfsonlinereporting.dcfs.illinois.gov, providing valuable resources for community intervention.

Since its inception, the ICAC Task Force has garnered more than 46,150 CyberTips, leading to over 755 arrests of sexual predators. They've also facilitated the arrest of more than 2,145 sexual predators since 2006 and provided essential internet safety training to tens of thousands of members within the community. Assistant Attorney General Vanessa Minson will be prosecuting the current case on behalf of Raoul's office, further reinforcing the state's stand against these heinous acts.
