A tragic turn of events occurred on Route 3 in Plymouth when a man lost his life in a harrowing car accident. As reported by Massachusetts State Police, the incident unfolded Friday evening around 5:10 PM, when a 2015 Nissan Rogue went off the road and flipped onto its roof into the Eel River.
In an unfortunate twist, driving the Nissan was a 50-year-old Plymouth man who sustained fatal injuries. Transported to a Boston hospital via MedFlight, the man was pronounced dead soon after arrival. In the car, two children, according to Massachusetts State Police, a 13-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy, also suffered serious injuries from the accident that remain hospitalized.
The crash disrupted highway circulation for hours as both the left and right lanes were shut down. It was during this time that a bottleneck formed, with vehicles squeezing through the breakdown lane. On-site authorities, including Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police, the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and others remained actively involved in the investigation and cleanup process.
Much remains unknown about the causes leading up to the devastating event. Nevertheless, helping hands from Plymouth Fire and EMS, Plymouth PD, and MassDOT were supplied, including those responding from the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. As the crash continues to be under investigation, the community is left grappling with yet another reminder of the fragility imperiled amid the precarious dance of man and machine.
