The streets of Portland could be getting a tad less crowded and perhaps a bit safer. A boost in parking enforcement is set to launch on July 8, backing efforts to crack down on a recent uptick in parking infractions and lapsed vehicle registrations, according to the City of Portland.

In response to the swell in violations, PBOT successfully lobbied for reinforcements this spring. Portland City Council gave the green light for 22 new parking enforcement officers to join the ranks. These officers are tasked with tackling a slew of violations, particularly expired tags and missing plates, as well as addressing cars that park facing the wrong direction or block the clear view at intersections, as stated by the City of Portland.

With safety at the forefront of their minds, PBOT asserts that clearing the way at a crossroads is a move for everyone's benefit. "Helping people see each other at intersections can improve safety for everyone," explains the press release. The agency elaborates that eliminating parking near intersections and crossings aids both pedestrians and drivers, boosting visibility and facilitating safer navigation.
