Those who have been navigating the tangle of traffic at the Loop 1604 and Interstate 10 interchange can look forward to a less congested summer, as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) eases some of the ongoing construction closures.
According to a report by KENS 5, TxDOT has made enough progress to allow for reduced interruptions over the coming months, promising weekends where the interchange will be completely open to traffic, and revealing that while crews have been diligently erecting flyover ramps as part of the construction project the completion of half the work has allowed for this reprieve to travelers and local businesses.
Meanwhile, KSAT outlines the forthcoming schedule, noting major closures are set to occur on select weekends, but that drivers will benefit from three periods of no closures, which include the July 4-8 Independence Day weekend and the Labor Day weekend, August 30-September 2, giving respite for holiday travel and activities in a move aimed at minimizing traffic headaches.
The summer schedule represents a balance as TxDOT endeavors to keep the project on course while acknowledging the public's need for uninterrupted access; drivers are reminded that, starting at 9 p.m. on Fridays through to 5 a.m. on Mondays, the anticipated weekend closures will take place, though closures may cease earlier than scheduled if work concludes swiftly and conditions are deemed secure for motorists, police are also anticipated to assist with directing traffic at key points TxDOT communicated to both local news outlets..
