A 19-year-old man was fatally shot by a San Antonio police officer during a domestic disturbance call on Tuesday, as reported by FOX San Antonio. The deceased, identified as Robby Jay Hernandez, is said to have returned to the scene at an apartment complex off Babcock Road and Medical Drive with a firearm, following an altercation with his girlfriend.
The dispute escalated to violence and the girlfriend, whose identity has not been disclosed, had phoned 911 for help. According to police, the call was cut off amid the confrontation. Upon arrival shortly after 5 p.m., officers say they heard a gunshot inside the apartment, which led them to enter the premises. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus detailed, "He's standing over her, pointing a gun at her," adding, "The officer heard a shot and the officer fired."
Hernandez was struck by the officer's gunfire once in the shoulder and back area. He was subsequently transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. The involved officer, an 11-year veteran of the force, has not been named pending ongoing investigations into the shooting.
The police have noted that the female involved in the incident was not harmed by the gunfire. As part of the department's procedure, an investigation into the officer-involved shooting is currently underway.
