Traffic on the Sawgrass Expressway in Broward County has returned to normal after a carjacking incident early Tuesday morning led to a major crash and a subsequent police investigation. According to NBC Miami, three northbound lanes were initially closed before University Drive, causing significant delays for the morning commuters. However, all lanes have since been reopened.
The crash involved a black Honda SUV with severe front-end damage, which WSVN reports was connected to an alleged carjacking. Aerial images captured the vehicle crashed into a guardrail post-collision, its bumper torn off and strewn across the pavement. In the wake of the crash, drivers experienced backups for miles with delays approximately lasting for an 10 to 15 minutes. Thankfully, the vehicle involved was towed, and traffic flow has improved since.
Focusing on the aftermath, a large police presence including Coral Springs Police Crime Scene units were on site, collecting evidence and documenting the single car involved. Witnesses and aerial footage showed officers examining the SUV intensely, an officer photographed the interior, hinting at the detailed nature of the ongoing investigation. Though the car's front windshield was damaged, raising questions about the events that transpired, details about the collision and the carjacking remain scarce at this time.
While the lanes have reopened and the congestion has cleared, authorities have not yet announced any arrests in connection to the incident, nor has there been any official word on injuries sustained. The situation is still developing and further updates are expected as Coral Springs Police and other law enforcement agencies continue their investigation into an alleged carjacking and its chaotic aftermath.
