A person has been struck and killed by a Brightline train in Lake Worth Beach, Florida, authorities confirmed on Tuesday. The incident occurred just one day following another collision in Palm Beach County involving the same rail service. Per reports from WPTV, emergency services were called to the 1600 block of South Dixie Highway around 12:15 p.m. where the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.
Details remain sparse as the Sheriff's Office has not yet released the identity of the victim or the circumstances leading to the tragic collision, which they are actively investigating, the day prior in a separate incident a Brightline train struck a car at an intersection in Delray Beach, "the man drove onto the tracks with the front end of his vehicle on the tracks," and while the gates came down, a southbound Brightline train collided with the front of the car, remarkably the driver survived without injury "the driver of the car is from the Caribbean and isn't used to being around trains," said Ted White, the public information officer for the Delray Beach Police Department and Delray Beach Fire Rescue, as reported by WPTV.
The Palm Beach County Fire Rescue was among the first to respond to the Lake Worth Beach incident, as noted by CBS12. The county has seen the highest number of such incidents in the state this year, totaling six railroad crossing incidents, according to the Federal Railroad Administration's count through March 31.
