On Monday, June 3, the Springfield Police Department's C3 Units executed a targeted operation, seizing a loaded firearm and arresting five individuals on High Street. According to the Springfield Police Department's official website, the arrests came amid concerns over repeated gun incidents and open-air drug activities in the area.
The SPD's C3 Units, composed of officers from the North End, Mason Square, Forest Park and Metro divisions, were surveilling the 0-100 block of High Street around 5:00 p.m. when they encountered five people obstructing the footpath. The group's presence reportedly forced a mother with a stroller to navigate around them to pass. Led by Lt. Julio Toledo, the team intervened after the group began moving towards Myrtle Street upon noticing the officers.
Initially, Luis Santana-Ponce was found with several bags of marijuana, along with over $1000 in cash, and was taken into custody. Authorities also arrested Alexis Semprit, who was found with suboxone strips. Semprit, who is currently out on bail from Hampden Superior Court for cocaine trafficking charges, faced arrest yet again.
During the same operation, Luis Velez, with outstanding warrants, and Wilberto Rivera-Rodriguez, who was associated with a non-licensed and non-insured motorcycle, were arrested. Jason Semprit fled the scene, tossing a backpack towards an officer before being apprehended. The backpack was later found to contain a loaded firearm, crack cocaine, and marijuana. This isn't new territory for Jason Semprit; he has a record, including a past firearms conviction stemming from a 2021 incident where he allegedly pointed a gun at a police officer.
The suspects face various charges ranging from firearm offenses to drug possession with the intent to distribute, as detailed by authorities. Jason Semprit is charged with multiple felonies, including carrying a firearm without a license, firearm violation with one prior violent or drug crime, and assault with a dangerous weapon, among others. His past brushes with the law underscore the gravity of these charges, showing a pattern that concerns both law enforcers and the community.
