
A 15-year-old girl became an unintended victim of a shooting in Northwest Miami-Dade, when a bullet meant for an aggressive dog struck her in the leg, authorities say.
The incident, which occurred yesterday in the vicinity of Northwest 18th Avenue and 79th Street, was first reported by NBC Miami. A family altercation with a dog led to the shooting, where, a man attempted to defend his relative from the canine assailant. Instead, his shot ended up hitting the teenager.
Paramedics responded to the scene after a dispatch call noted, "It’s going to be a female shot, possibly by the neighbor, shot in the leg," as per information obtained from the WSVN report. The girl was transported to Ryder Trauma Center and is now recovering in stable condition after the harrowing ordeal.
Miami-Dade Police have detained the shooter for further investigation while local authorities managed the area, temporarily closing a portion of Northwest 18th Avenue following the incident. As police continue to piece together the circumstances of this unsettling event, the condition of the dog at the heart of the confrontation remains unreported.
