The Tipton community is in mourning following the tragic loss of a local middle school teacher and football coach, who died in a single-car crash over the weekend. Philip "Kyle" Degler, 40, of Elwood was killed Saturday morning when his vehicle veered off the roadway and into a creek. The Tipton County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the accident site on the 2700 block of East Indiana 28 shortly after 8:30 a.m., as reported by WRTV.com.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Degler had been driving his 2016 Kia Soul westbound on State Road 28 when, for a unclear reason, the vehicle left the roadway as it entered a curve. The car continued traveling through a small corn field before coming to a stop in the creek. Efforts by first responders to provide medical assistance were unsuccessful, and Degler was pronounced dead at the scene, WTHR reports.
The loss echoes throughout the Tipton Middle School, where Degler was not only an educator but also a mentor on the football field. The Tipton Community School Corporation released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the incident: "We extend our deepest condolences to his family and to all our students and staff who knew and worked with him," and also noted that counselors will be available to support the school community, as mentioned by Kokomo Tribune.

In an another poignant message, a man shared, "You had the biggest heart, so full of love. ... Your memory and love will continue to shine through us. We got you from here."
