The explosion erupted at Rockport Steel while the worker, identified as Sean Rancourt, was welding on a diesel fuel tank around 2:50 p.m., per details issued in a statement from the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office obtained by The Boston Globe.
Despite swift emergency responses from Rockland's police and fire services, as well as Camden police and Northeast Ambulance, Rancourt's injuries were fatal, the first responders attempted life-saving measures but could not overturn the tide of misfortune unwound by the accident.
