A fire that erupted Monday evening in Chicago's Little Village neighborhood has been deemed an act of arson with two people suffering injuries. According to a Chicago Tribune report, the blaze occurred in the 2400 block of South Sawyer Avenue, resulting in critical injury to a 60-year-old woman due to smoke inhalation. The woman was rescued from the second floor of the building and is now being treated at Mount Sinai Hospital.
Emerging from the scene with minor injuries, a man aged 62 was also taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, as noted by officials. Caught by the blaze in the evening, Chicago police and firefighters responded promptly, deploying their skills to subdue the fire that had maliciously been set, investigations later revealed.
The FOX 32 Chicago coverage states that the fire began around 7:41 p.m. and was extinguished by the Chicago firefighters. The consequent probe into the incident determined arson was the cause, leading police to commence an arson investigation operated by Area Four detectives.
