
A fatal hit-and-run collision in Murfreesboro has claimed the life of a bicyclist. According to WSMV, the incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. Thursday near the Walmart on South Rutherford Boulevard. Murfreesboro Police said that the driver involved initially fled the scene but was later detained, with charges pending.
The area was closed for investigation by Murfreesboro Police’s Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) between Billy Boulevard and Haven Drive, leaving travelers seeking alternate routes. Having quickly located the suspect vehicle after the collision that left the bicyclist fatally wounded, police were able to take the involved driver into custody, as reported by WGNS Radio.
As shared by WKRN, the roadway has since been reopened. The ongoing investigation seeks to unravel the circumstances that precipitated this latest incident on Murfreesboro streets. Data from the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security indicate there have been eight crashes involving cyclists since the beginning of the year, with one being lethal prior to Thursday’s incident.
