
A tragic incident took place in Bloomington this past weekend when a 5-year-old boy drowned in a community pool. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office received distress calls concerning an unresponsive child at the Woodland Springs pool, located at 3111 South Leonard Springs Road, and responded to the scene around 7:15 p.m. Saturday evening. The Bloomingtonian reports that the deputies arrived to find that fire and medical personnel were already on the scene performing CPR on the boy.
Despite the resuscitative efforts, the child was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital as a trauma alert and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. According to WRTV, detectives interviewed witnesses at the scene and the preliminary investigation shows no evidence of a crime. The name of the child has yet to be released pending family notification.
As the community grapples with this loss, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff Ruben Marté, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
