Broward County has racked up a commendable collection of accolades, securing a total of 29 National Association of County Information Officers (NACIO) Awards of Excellence for 2024. Spiritedly leading the pack was the Broward County Aviation's public outreach campaign on Holiday Travel Advisories, which earned the esteemed 'Best of Show' title, according to an announcement on the county's official website.
NACIO's annual gathering and ceremonious recognition serve as a testament to the impactful public information and educational efforts put forth by county governments across the nation. In a remarkable display of diversity and depth of initiatives, eleven Broward County agencies left an indelible mark on the awards. Among the recognized were the Animal Care, Broward County Aviation, and Broward County Library, not to mention several others equally dedicated to steering the societal ship forward through innovation and engagement.
Demonstrating the potency of communication in times of trial and celebration, the county's news release details two 'Best of Category' wins for Broward County Aviation. Both the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) Historic Flooding Communications Outreach and the aforementioned holiday travel advisories stood out in the 'Crisis' and 'General Information' campaign categories respectively. The County Library also celebrated dual victories, marking its 50th anniversary with a 'Peace Love Libraries' campaign that resonated with the public and the NACIO judges alike.
In the realm of resilience, the aptly named Resilience Unit snagged dual awards for its newsletter and a succinct beach renourishment video. The Animal Care & Resilience Unit, shared in this glory for their informative rack card offering heat tips for pets, a poignant reminder of our enduring responsibility to the non-human residents of our community. Innovative approaches towards public engagement were unmistakable, as illustrated by the Innovation Unit's 3D animated video of sales surtax transportation investments, capturing audience attention in a medium length video category.
The Superior Awards category embraced a trifecta of wins for the Broward County Library. These included commendations for their website's electronic communications, the 'I Read Banned Books' library card, and a stylistic button showcasing their 50th anniversary initiative. Aiming to provide resources instrumental for informed public discourse, the Natural Resources Division shone with a multilingual Air Quality Index brochure and a 'NatureScape Irrigation Service' YouTube Shorts Video.
To cap off the list of honorees, and in no small fashion, were the Meritorious Awards, with the Resilience Unit again being a dual recipient. These acknowledgments serve as tangible credits to the committed efforts of the urban planners, innovators, librarians, and environmentalists steadfast in enriching the lives of Broward County's denizens. Furthermore, this year, the county also collected 33 NACo awards, a parallel achievement highlighting effective county programs and services, underlining an unwavering commitment to pioneering excellence throughout the county's diverse divisions.
