As Broward County preps for the 2024-2025 academic year, a cohort of around 80 armed guardians is slated to undergo specialized training at Keiser University Pembroke Pines this Thursday, a measure taken to fortify the safety net of the district's schools. According to WSVN, the training is a collaborative effort with the Broward Sheriff’s Office and will encompass a broad spectrum of procedures including firearms use, tactical responses and the fine art of de-escalation as these guardians gear up to act as a first line of defense for the student body and school employees.
Composed of individuals from diverse backgrounds such as military veterans, formerly sworn law enforcement officials, and seasoned security workers, these guardians will not only receive traditional training but will also engage with Keiser University's latest tech, the MILO Range simulator, for interactive learning pivoting on critical incident management and the sharpening of their tactical judgment, as part of their comprehensive training regimen, Broward has been steadfast in its commitment to school safety, putting this type of program into action since the year 2018, signaling a relentless pursuit of security within the educational ambit.
KTVZ notes that the MILO system, which stands as a flagship for advanced simulation tech, not only benefits the guardians undergoing training but also serves as a key instructional tool for students engaged in law enforcement and criminal justice studies at Keiser University.
Set to take place on the campus grounds located at 1640 SW 145th Ave, Pembroke Pines, the training endeavor is a critical piece in a larger mosaic of safety strategies, and with these guardians poised to assume their posts upon the commencement of the school term, parents, students, faculty, and fellow community members are to glean a sense of greater school-wide security.
